HEAD OF HR

The Purpose 

Responsible for managing the Employee Relations, Administration and Recruitment team, providing timely direction and support. To provide a comprehensive and pragmatic value-added ER service to all areas of the business.  To input to and deliver an HR strategy to support the achievement of the business strategy and objectives. This is an exciting new role added to our structure due to our expansion and will support the Group HRD on international aspects as appropriate.  

 

Role Responsibility 

  • Working directly with departments across the business and responsible for the ER, Administrative & Recruitment service to the business 
  • Identifying trends both internally and externally to support business growth and values. 
  • Develop new and existing staff including succession planning, workforce planning,  
  • Clear understanding of all areas of the business, enabling ER to fully support and develop all employees.  

Decision Making: 

  •  Supporting and advising the ER team with decisions. 
  • Ensure that all HR Policies and practices are up to date following latest best practise and legally compliant, appropriate for the needs of the business, fit for purpose and consistently implemented throughout the Company. 
  • Developing and implementing HR initiatives in line with organisational objectives 

Impact:  

  • Ensure that the ER team complement the business needs to support employees during their employment with the company. 
  • Analysing employee feedback and data, with the aim of creating a better working environment and engaged culture. 
  • Deliver a passionate HR service to our business that is commercially minded, and customer focused. 
  • Provide consistent and timely HR & Recruitment reporting, analysing the outcomes and implementing improvements. 

People Management: 

  •  Providing effective management to the organisation’s ER department, ensuring that caseload and training provision are correctly resourced, and all staff are correctly utilised depending on their skillset. 
  • Identify development needs of all team members creating and delivering plans to develop all reports. 

Freedom to Act: 

  •  Ensure consistent day to day advice is provided to line managers on all human resource issues. 
  • Develop close working relationships with key stakeholders to build the credibility of HR and to drive change projects which maximise profit whilst maintaining good practice and compliance with legislation. 
  • Advise management at all levels on all potential HR issues, whether employee related, or recruitment related a wider employment market or HR law issue. 

Financial Responsibility:  

  •  Assisting with the ER & Recruitment department’s annual budget 
  • Work closely with the Group HR Director to ensure that the remuneration, performance management and incentive review processes are managed effectively. 
  • Minimise impact of any tribunal applications by existing and previous staff members. 
  • Understanding of company financial performance and departmental impact on that performance. 
  • Lead and deliver projects as required, delegating to team members where appropriate.  

Experience required: -  

  • 5 years’ experience of leading a busy ER / HR department including team performance and management. 
  • Excellent knowledge of employment law, HR policies and procedures 
  • In depth knowledge of HR best practice and latest developments  
  • Experience of working within a budget. 
  • Strong understanding of latest Recruitment methods & Succession Planning 
  • Ability to interface with senior managers on a regular basis. The role is a trusted confidante on all issues, unafraid of giving opinions and expertise. 
  • Ability to Coach and mentor at all levels.

Location: Birmingham 

Hours: 40 hrs (2 days remote working)
