We have an entry level position as a Research Scientist within our Biochemistry and Concept Department, this role involves supporting the development and improvement of antibody / protein reagents and analytical systems for our portfolio and pipeline products. The main responsibilities are to perform laboratory experiments and record their output in experimental reports.  Working in a multi-disciplinary team environment, the successful candidate will be expected to make scientific and intellectual contributions to product/ assay development.

  • To perform new product feasibility studies, including design and testing of novel reagents and protocols.
  • To validate new procedures and materials up to the point of technology transfer to other departments.
  • To assess new materials and laboratory equipment, and give feedback on their suitability for use.
  • To perform scientific calculations, including molar and unit conversions, reaction kinetics, purity assessments and clinical statistical analyses.
  • To develop technical expertise in a broad spectrum of disciplines including (but not limited to):
    • protein/antibody purification and analysis (AKTA, SDS PAGE, Western blotting)
    • immunoassay (turbidimetry, ELISA)
  • To carry out design changes to existing products and processes when required.
  • To generate clear and accurate experimental records and present findings in project and departmental meetings.
  • To be responsible for managing own workload and to work with less input from line manager as training progresses.
  • To contribute to the development of policies, standard operating procedures and protocols, relevant to the operation of the department.
  • To evaluate activities within the department and suggest improvement initiatives to ensure the department is performing as efficiently as possible.
  • To have an understanding of the company as a whole beyond their own department.
  • Upkeep of training and health and safety records to demonstrate competence to internal auditors.
  • To take charge of one or more routine tasks and equipment maintenance within the department.
  • The post holder shall ensure that all aspects of their work comply with the company quality, health and safety and departmental policies to ensure the safety of both the employees of the company and the devices produced through their work whilst employed here.
  • It should be noted that the work of the department is of a confidential nature and must not be communicated to other persons except where required for authorised purposes.
