We have now an exciting opportunity working in our busy Technical Support Department as a Field Service Engineer. As a representative of the Binding Site to our customers, the Field Service Engineer is responsible for ensuring and maximizing customer satisfaction with company product and services. The ideal candidate always conveys professionalism and service excellence, and with detailed product knowledge, trains other members of the Field Service Engineering team; and can troubleshoot at the highest level on all instrumentation and systems. This position requires a seasoned leader in Field Service Engineering.  This role is based within Birmingham location and travel across the UK & International when required. 

THE ROLE  

Service and Support of Customer’s Binding Site Instrumentation  

  • Be the technical service resource for service team members, in house technical service, sales, and other departments. 
  • Installs, and manages preventative maintenance and maintenance services of MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometers, Automated Liquid Handling Systems, and protein analysers at customer sites. 
  • Provides technical assistance via phone, email and in person, in response to requests, inquiries and concerns from customers and Binding Site staff. 
  • Repairs or replaces any faulty Mass Spectrometer, Automated Liquid Handling System or protein analyser components to restore functionality within the agreed timescales and to offer first time fix solutions. 
  • Ensures customers inquiries and requests are responded to within Binding Site service level agreements. 
  • Creates, edits and modifies Service and Training manuals, Field Service Bulletins, and SOPs. 
  • Leads the validation and testing of Mass Spec Systems and software versions. 

 

Technical Service & Continuous Improvement  

  • Provides training for Technical Service staff, as needed, on Mass Spectrometry Systems and Automated Liquid Handling Systems. 
  • Works with the Global Engineering Service team on best-practices and opportunities for improvement. 
  • Interacts with the company’s computer and application-based service module to document repairs and preventative maintenance visits. 
  • Implements continuous improvement actions based on feedback. 
  • Maintains open communication cross-departmentally to share feedback. 
  • Actively participate in Technical Service, Sales/Marketing and/or corporate initiatives to add value to department/company, including participation in tradeshows, project teams, etc. 
  • Maintains product knowledge and skills, attending training courses as required. 
  • Interacts with TSIH to provide information about product/customer issues, so they can be logged into the company’s complaint handling system. 

 

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Electronics or related field required. 
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as Field Service Engineer in support of laboratory instrumentation, 
  • Experience in the IVD, Medical Device industry or Military related experience 
  • Frequent Travel required, including weekends as needed, and other Binding Site international locations; may require travel at short notice. 
  • Experience with liquid handling robotic systems ideally within a diagnostic environment preferred. 
  • Experience launching a new diagnostics instrument platform a plus. 
  • Experience training customers and users of laboratory instrumentation preferred.
