Research Team Manager- Biochemistry and Concept

We have a fantastic opportunity for an individual to join us as a Research Team Manager within our Biochemistry and Concept Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a R&D team and will be expected to make scientific and intellectual contributions to the development and improvement of antibody/protein reagents and analytical systems for our portfolio and pipeline products.

 

The Role

•  To manage a R&D team and be responsible for the activities undertaken and the results obtained by the staff in that team.

•  To advance the TBS product portfolio through development of assays, protein purification, antisera production and analytical systems.

•   Work on multiple Research and Development projects at the same time without day-to-day input from line manager.

•  Bring knowledge and experience from related scientific disciplines, including (but not limited to) protein biochemistry (structure, immunology, function, binding etc.), ELISA and mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS).

•  Co-ordinate workload and set objectives for direct reports to ensure that the objectives of the department are met and delivered within agreed timescales.

•  Develop a thorough scientific, mathematical and statistical understanding of methods used within their remit.

•  Provide clinical and scientific leadership to employees in the department and across the Company.

• Contribute to the specification and design of future products, advising upon project feasibility and offer innovative solutions to achieve design goals.

• To contribute to the development of policies, standard operating procedures & protocols, relevant to the operation of the department.

•  Upkeep of training and health and safety records to demonstrate competence to internal auditors.

•  To attend and contribute fully to departmental and managerial meetings.

•  Be able to communicate effectively with employees at all levels.

• The post holder shall ensure that all aspects of their work comply with the company quality, health and safety and departmental policies to ensure the safety of both the employees of the company and the devices produced through their work whilst employed here.

•   It should be noted that the work of the department is of a confidential nature and must not be communicated to other persons except where required for authorised purposes.

 

Essential:

  • Higher scientific degree (g. Masters) and at least three years of laboratory experience, or PhD in a relevant discipline
  • Knowledge of immune diagnostic assays
  • Practical experience in one or more of the following: protein purification and analysis, functional antibody assays, protein-protein interactions and protein conjugation, development of immunoassays, conjugation and immobilization of proteins onto surfaces with retention of biological function
  • Effective at experimental design, experimental data interpretation and judgment of their role in planning next steps
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Willingness to work in the lab as required
  • Ability to work in a team to achieve assigned objectives

 

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in a IVD manufacturing GMP environment
  • Experience of developing a product for market launch
  • Management experience, including the ability to carry out performance reviews and training
  • Project management experience and familiarity with MS project
